Puhos ♡ People 2018 is a cultural festival for the whole family. The event takes place on Saturday 25th of August 2018 at the Puhos Mall, located in Itäkeskus area of Helsinki, Finland. The Puhos, which is one of the liveliest multicultural hubs of the Helsinki city, is a centre maintained by multilingual actors consisting of different communities, shops, restaurants, cafés and mosques. The mall is a spontaneously developed meeting point which gathers people from diverse backgrounds. Puhos ♡ People brings together music, food and other culture programme designed together by the communities from Puhos and other parts of Eastern Helsinki. The event is alcohol free.

Maria Gasolina

Maria Gasolina is a world music band from Finland performing foreign, mainly Brasilian dance and rhythm music translated into Finnish. The band has moved fully packed club and festival audiences since 2001. The trademark of Mario Gasolina live gigs is peculiar, organic and joint moving rhythm rally which is hard to resist.

ES-OW is a Senegalian reggae and afro-pop artist. His songs are rooted to his ideology of equality seeking for justice and eager to help those in need. ES-OW´s lyrics reflect the multicultural foundations of Arican music in different continents since they are performed in English, Fula, Mandinga, Diola, Wolofi, Spanish and French languages

Musta barbaari, Prinssi Jusuf, Seksikäs suklaa & Dosdela
Venue: Stage

Musta barbaari (Black Barbarian), Prinssi Jusuf (Prince Yusuf), Seksikäs suklaa (Sexy Chocolade) & Dosdela are rappers who spend their child- and younghood in Eastern Helsinki. Musta Barbaari is an ex body builder and social media celebrity who got into spotlight with his song Salil eka salil vika. Prinssi Jusuf is known from his song Prinssille morsian. Boath artists have active fan groups in Instagram. Seksikäs Suklaa ja Dosdela are widely known social media celebrities who released their first single Niku97 couple of years ago.

Raappana is one of the most successful reggae artists in Finland. Since 20017 his songs have brought summer to Finland throughout the year. Raappana has released one mix tape and four studio albums from which the last “Ennen aamunkoittoo”, was published by Suomen Musiikki in 2015.

Cabdi Hani (DJI)

Cabdi Hani´s love songs which comprises elements from reggae and blue jazz have made him famous in East-Africa, Middle-East as well as among the Somali communities in diaspora in United States and Europe. Cabdi Hani is one of the founding members of the Somalia´s most known post-civil war band the Horn Stars Band (Xidigaha Geeska).

Dj Fawzi is the world´s first Somali woman DJ who performs actively in clubs around United States. Due to her engaging rhytms and the pioneer status in DJ music Fawz is well known in artist in Somali communities around the world.

Russian Electronic Music Event is the official after party club for the Puhos ♡ People 2018 Festival. The club gathers together the most inspiring Russian speaking electronic music DJ´s from Helsinki, Tallinn and Saint Petersburg. The audience are entertained with vast and high-quality programme mixing together electro music genres from Bass, Deep House, Garage and Trip-Hop to Post-Industrial and 80´s Synthwave. Bollywood Kamlees is a Helsinki based Bollywood dance group specialised in Rajasthan flok dances. The group´s choreographer Ilona Kolachana has studied several traditional Indian dances in India as well as in Europe, and teaches Indian dance in Helsinki Metropolitan area.

Peruvian Restaurant

Peruvian restaurant serves delicacies from differents parts of Peru. Ceviche is summery, fresh and limy fish dish from coastal areas of Peru. Juanes from the rainforest area of Peru is a chicken and rice dish with peruvian spices wrapped inside a banana leaf and boiled for serving. Caja Andina is a pork dish prepared in a peruvian grill and served with potatoes and salad. Empanada in turn is a pasty stuffed with meat and quinoa filling.

Eritrean restaurant serves festival quests spicy meat stew called Zign alongside with Injera, a sourdough-risen flatbread with a slightly spongy texture. The restaurant´s servings include also Quiwa, sauteed meat, onions and berbere served with a sauce. While dining you can also taste Suwa, a home-brewed beer made from roasted corn and barley flavored with gesho, a type of buckthorn leaf.

Monument for Invisible People
Venue: Stage

Community based art work by artists Katriina Sjöblom and Hanna Luukkonen is made in cooperation with asylum seekers in Finland. As a part of their art work Sjöblom and Luukkonen have given the legs, which function as a main element of their work, for other artists to use as a basis for new art works. In Puhos Mall artist Sirkku Halme has used the legs for her installation Monument for Invisible People.

DJ ANNA ARTEMOVA ADAMS
Anna Artemova Adams is a DJ who get her inspiration from Berlin´s minimal and syth-wave scenes. In her DJ sets she mixes dark analog synthesizer sounds to newer synthpunk atmosphere. You might have heard her in the Channel Haus or more recently at the Club Anvil.
DJ APACHE LIFEFORMS
Dj Apache Lifeforms started his career in music ten years ago and has collected records his whole life. By mixing the genres of experimental, rhythmic electronic music and post-industrial Apache Lifeforms has earned reputation as a expert with an unique taste in music. In last years he has performed in various subcultural music events around the Helsinki City including  Kaiku, Siltanen and Ääniwalli Clubs as well as  FLOW-festival.
DJ STAYHOMIE (RU / SPB)
Stayhomie is a project of Saint Petersburg based Max Kubbe, a man who is also active in few bands popular in Russia.  In his own music Stayhomie mixes Bass, Garage and Hip-Hop genres in a meditative way leading his listeners to really deep experiences. Each performance of this stylish artist is a vivid and colourful show forming a seamless and multi-dimensional dialog with his audience.
DJ ERYKAH SHALII
Footwork, Jersey Сlub, Rap, Hip-Hop, Grime and Bassline are the keywords for this young, yet promising DJ´s sets.  DJ Erykash Shalii´s carefully chosen songs create a futuristic soundscape which makes even the hardest critics to move on the dance floor.
DJ HEM
DJ Hem, Hamdam Zakirov by his real name, is a Helsinki based poet, vinyl record enthusiast, collector and the head archeologist of the Soiviet Union based Melodijja record label in Finland. Soviet Grooves as his genre DJ Hem´s sets include the best pieces of pop, rock, funk and jazz from 60´s to this day, movie hit songs and pearls of folk music around the former Soviet Union. For the Russian Electro Music Event DJ Hem have gathered unique set of 80´s Synth-Pop genre songs around the former Soviet Union.

puhos| ARCHIVE

Puhos ♡ People 2017 was a cultural festival for the whole family. The event was organized on 5th of August 2017 at the Puhos Mall in the Itäkeskus area of Helsinki. The event gathered around one thousand visitors, and consisted of multilingual poetry and music programme, a composition piece produced by local youths, as well as different workshops. Iraq, Kurdish, Somali, Congolese and Gambian festival cuisine was offered from pop-up stalls and several restaurants in the area.
